Lambda Alpha Honor Society

Lambda Alpha National Anthropology Honor Society was established in 1968 to acknowledge and reward academic excellence. The name Lambda Alpha is composed of the initial letters of the Greek words Logos Anthropos, meaning the study of humankind. The Eta Chapter of Lambda Alpha Honorary Society of Anthropology was begun here at the University of Richmond in 2011 by six students in Dr. Jennifer Nourse’s senior capstone seminar. Since those first six students were inducted, more than 110 students have been asked to become members. Those who belong to Lambda Alpha are able to apply for scholarship and research money and to find a network of other anthropology students with superior academic records.

To be eligible for membership in Lambda Alpha, a student must:

• Be a declared anthropology major or minor.
• Have an overall cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.
• Have an overall GPA in anthropology (taken at UR) of at least 2.5.
• Completed at least four courses in anthropology.
